- Ira, I have Windows 3.11 and the Cardinal MVP288IV.
-
- I had to physically remove my old internal modem. Then I installed the
- plug n play program. I had problems at first because of two corrupt
- flies on the install disks. Once I got good files (Cardinal was totally
- non-responsive) from my son, I let 'er rip. The modem got installed on
- Com 3 automatically.
- I have no idea why it installed on Com 3, since I have a Logitech mouse
- which isn't even using a com port.
- However, the ICU plug 'n play software did its job.
- It's all a mystery to me. Evidently my BIOS sets up a com1, which I
- don't know how to disable. There may be Com1 and Com2 wiring leads on
- the mother board, but I can find nothing on how to disable them.
- Cardinal didn't attempt to the e-mail below:
-
- " I used the Intel ISA ICU (similar to plug & play) to install my
-
- MVP288IV. The Cardinal modem is my only device using a serial port, but
-
- is not reported when I run either my BIOS setup or MSD.
-
- The modem is installed as Com3. There are no conflicting IRQs for
-
- Com2, and I can't figure out why it didn't install as Com2.
-
- When I run MSD, the Cardinal modem on "Com3" is not reported at
-
- all. Instead, MSD reports two modems. One on Com1 and a second on
-
- Com2.\
-
- MSD reports the chips: modem on Com1 is reported as an 8250; Com2
-
- is reported as a 16550.
-
- I looked through my system files for some type of modem driver but
-
- found nothing. I suspect that at least one is a ghost modem, perhaps a
-
- relic of my logitech mouse driver. The second modem may be something the
-
- plug & play software somehow created and later modified to operate
-
- on Com3. I'm really stumped. The only good thing is that when I set my
-
- com software to Com3, everything works fine."
-
- Does ANYONE know why the plug 'n play software installs the internal
- modem on Com3?
